Ishe Smith beat Cornelius Bundrage by split decision to claim the IBF 154-pound title. Smith won by points 25-5 and his first world title, uncomplainingly counter punching the winner from end to end 12 sometimes boring rounds. The expert managed by Floyd Mayweather Jr. Wail with joy following flattering the first Las Vegas-born fighter to triumph a major belt.
Bundrage was more forceful in the early rounds, but tired. Smith spread out and cut Bundrage in the ninth while mainly controlling the final four rounds to earn an easy victory. Two judges favored Smith 116-111, while Bundrage won 114-113 on the third card. Bundrage congratulated Smith on the victory, saying he had stroll away from his game plan.
