Shiva Thapa (56kg) and Sumit Sangwan (81kg) from India won gold medal for their individual sorts at the Asian Olympic on April 12, 2012, after a day they made the cut for the London Olympic Games.
Shiva is 18 but he overwhelmed bronze medal at Wessam Salamana of Syria in Asian Games on 2010. Shiva hit silver medal for Worapoj Petchkoon of Thailand in Athens Olympics earlier in the contest, was brimming with buoyancy with his Olympic spot protected. He was ongoing slowly against the fast paced Syria boxer, then he came back with his counter attacks, captivating a slender one point lead after the opening round (5:4). Shiva got silver medal in Youth Olympic on 2010 for hand adroitness and timing – his left hand punch proved to be the powerful weapon. Shiva had a three points lead (10:7) for reaching final round, which encouraged Salamana to go all out. Finally he hit the title with score of 18:11.
Sangwan is 19 but he plagued bronze medal in Guangzhou Games, Jakhon Qurbanov of Tajikistan. Sumit lead Qurbanov and play his normal game. Both of them threw in some good punches and give up five points each in the second round. But Sangwan hit the game from Qurbanov in last round. He frustrated the Tajik with his solid defence and counter attacked on almost every occasion, wearing his opponent down. He finally won the gold with a 14:9 victory.
Shiva and Sumit have immense development for their age; that the way they examine their challengers and acclimatize them. Both the teenagers concentrated with timing and counters attacks. They are great future forecast for India.
